When you grow up with a parent who is highly critical, controlling, self focused, emotionally unpredictable, or unable to make room for your needs, the effects can follow you well into adulthood.
You may second guess your memories. You may feel guilty for setting reasonable limits, work hard to keep everyone calm, explain yourself long after a conversation has ended, or wonder why being around your parent can make you feel small, confused, responsible, or unlike yourself.
Healing From a Narcissistic Parent was created to help you understand these experiences without shaming you, pressuring you to diagnose your parent, or telling you what kind of relationship you should have now.
This 80 page educational guide and workbook was written by Caroline Aaron, MSW, LICSW, a licensed therapist. It combines warm, plain language psychoeducation with practical exercises so you can name what happened, understand how you adapted, and begin making choices that protect your well being today.
You do not need your parent's agreement to take your own experience seriously.

Prepare clear and grounded words for difficult boundaries.
Consider a range of contact choices without turning the decision into a moral test.
Practice becoming a steadier and more protective adult to yourself.
Map your triggers and create a realistic recovery plan you can return to.
WHAT IS INSIDE
A compassionate welcome and guidance for moving at your own pace.
Plain language teaching about narcissistic traits, relationship patterns, and the limits of labels.
Pattern mapping exercises that focus on the impact of behavior rather than diagnosing a parent.
Education about why childhood survival strategies can continue into adult life.
Guided reflection on overfunctioning, guilt, self doubt, and learned responsibility.
Self trust practices for reconnecting with your own perceptions and needs.
Boundary preparation, examples, and practical language for difficult interactions.
A contact continuum to help you consider the level of contact that fits your life.
Inner reparenting practices focused on becoming a reliable adult to yourself.
Trigger mapping and a personal recovery and maintenance plan.

This is more than a collection of disconnected prompts. The book and workbook format moves from understanding the pattern to recognizing its effects, practicing protective skills, and building a recovery plan that feels personal and realistic.
WHO THIS WORKBOOK MAY SUPPORT
This workbook may be helpful if you grew up with a parent who was controlling, critical, emotionally immature, self focused, dismissive, or unpredictable.

The workbook can be used independently or alongside therapy. It will not tell you to forgive, reconcile, reduce contact, or end contact. Those choices are personal and may benefit from individualized support.

A GENTLE NOTE FROM A THERAPIST
You may have spent years believing that understanding your parent meant dismissing yourself. It does not. You can recognize a parent's limitations and still be honest about what their behavior cost you.
Recovery does not require a perfect explanation, your parent's agreement, or one dramatic decision. It can begin with smaller steps. You can believe your own experience, notice what your body and emotions are telling you, choose one clearer limit, and treat yourself with the steadiness you deserved all along.
