A warm, practical 96-page workbook for adults who want to understand strong feelings, slow the rush to react, and make choices they can feel better about later.

Have you ever known what might help—but could not remember the skill once you were very upset? Maybe you react quickly, replay a hard moment for hours, go quiet and numb, or feel so overwhelmed that even simple choices become difficult.

I created this workbook for those real-life moments.

Written by Caroline Aaron, MSW, LICSW, this workbook explains emotional regulation in clear, everyday language. You will not be expected to understand therapy terms before you begin. When a therapy idea is useful, it is explained simply, with examples and a practical way to try it.

This is not about hiding your feelings, forcing yourself to be calm, or judging yourself for having a hard time. It is about understanding what is happening, caring for yourself safely, and creating enough room to choose what helps next.

The six-step path:
1. Notice
Spot your patterns, triggers, body signals, stress buildup, and early warning signs.

2. Name
Put clear words to feelings, thoughts, body signs, and the strong pull to act.

3. Pause
Slow things down, return to the present, and wait before choices that are hard to undo.

4. Soothe
Try comfortable breathing, movement, grounding, less noise or pressure, helpful self-talk, and safe support.

5. Choose
Check the facts, solve what can be solved, set a boundary, or choose an action that fits what matters to you.

6. Repair
Take responsibility without tearing yourself down, make things right when possible, and plan for the next hard moment.

Inside the workbook:
• Clear teaching written in everyday language
• Real-life examples for anger, anxiety, panic, sadness, grief, guilt, shame, jealousy, rejection, conflict, and shutdown
• Early-warning body map
• “What made today harder?” stress check
• Feelings check-ins and word lists
• A simple five-step PAUSE practice
• Grounding choices that do not require closing your eyes
• Breath-free options when breathing exercises do not help
• Movement, comfort, and low-demand tools
• Help for thought loops and replaying conversations
• Scripts for breaks, boundaries, support, and repair
• Personal comfort, coping, support, and safety plans
• 15-day skill practice tracker
• 16 therapist-written reminders and affirmations
• Trusted sources and support resources

This may be a helpful fit if you:
• React before you have time to think
• Shut down, go blank, withdraw, or feel numb
• Replay difficult interactions for hours
• Struggle to name what you feel or need
• Know coping skills but forget them when emotions get strong
• Want more ways to handle anger, worry, shame, grief, rejection, or overwhelm
• Prefer clear guidance that feels supportive rather than clinical
• Want a resource to use on your own or alongside therapy

Your purchase includes:

• One complete 96-page low-ink black-and-white PDF

Both files contain the same complete workbook in two visual editions. They are not 192 different workbook pages.

Use it at your pace:
You may begin anywhere, read without writing, print only the pages you want, repeat a useful exercise, or bring selected pages into therapy. You do not need to complete everything. A page can be finished when it has helped enough for today.

Created by a licensed therapist:
I wanted this workbook to sound the way I would speak with a client: warm, honest, clear, and never shaming. Strong feelings do not mean you are too much or beyond help. You can learn to notice them sooner, care for yourself through them, and make one thoughtful choice at a time.
