When feelings hit faster than words, a teen may know something is wrong and still not know how to slow the moment down. Anger may show up as yelling, shutting down, storming away, arguing, or saying something they regret later. This book-and-workbook starts at the beginning. It does not assume the teen already knows anger-management language or skills.
Teen anger does not have to be excused to be understood. Accountability and compassion can exist together. This resource helps teens explore early body signals, fast thoughts, triggers, underlying needs, choices, communication, and repair in clear, age-respectful language.
Written by Caroline Aaron, MSW, LICSW, this 60-page book-and-workbook is designed for teens ages 13–17. Eight clear chapters move in order from learning to stories, diagrams, worked examples, and open guided practice. The wording is intentionally plain and age-respectful. It can be used independently or alongside a parent, caregiver, counselor, therapist, or other trusted adult.
Inside the workbook:
- Beginner-friendly teaching about what anger is, what it does in the body and attention, and how it differs from aggression
- Tools for recognizing triggers and early warning signs before feelings become more intense
- Connected fictional composite stories involving Jordan, Amara, Ari, and Sam at home, school, with friends, and online
- Clear diagrams for the anger cycle, stress load, anger level, RESET Path, and Fact–Story–Need Check
- The RESET Path: Recognize the rise, Ease the body, Sort the story, Express the need, and Take one safe next step
- Simple explanations of why each body, thought, and communication tool may help before the teen is asked to use it
- Supportive words for requesting space, help, time, or a calmer conversation
- Guidance for returning to a conflict, taking responsibility, and making a repair
- A one-minute RESET option for moments when a long worksheet feels unrealistic
- A two-part personal Anger Support Plan for early clues, safe space, support people, return, repair, and emergency steps
- The Anger Support Pattern Quiz: 15 educational, non-diagnostic items across five skill areas, with simple 0–9 section scores and matched chapters
This workbook may help a teen practice noticing anger earlier, lowering one part of the body’s alarm, separating facts from the quick story, expressing a need more clearly, choosing a safer next step, and repairing after a difficult interaction. It does not promise perfect calm or the end of conflict. The goal is more understanding, language, and choice.
